Bullshit! The typical managed care company pays out over 80% of premiums in benefits. There are some niche carriers, like Aflac that pay less, because they only offer partial coverage. But the major carriers that provide the bulk of health insurance (e.g., UNH, AET, CG, HUM, WLP and the other Blues) are in that range. I ran a self-insured plan for our companies for several years. We paid a third party adminsitrator (TPA) to administer claims handling, treatment approval, plan controls, etc. What did we pay for the TPA?...About 30 cents on the dollar. The rest was for claims.

At the end of the day, the overall cost was about a wash with a fully insured plan...so we switched back.

That's kind of like saying a lawyer takes 30-40 cents of every dollar and adds zero value to the system. Wait a minute...Now that comment may be right.

I don't give a fuc if government gets out of Medicare. In fact let the private sector factor in medical cost from cradle to grave. Just have it to where they can not drop you from company insurance when they are through with you at the end of your career, or not. That is how we got this fuc'd up healthcare system in the first place. (wage controls, ok we offer healthcare benifits, WWII, hello) Why should taxpayers pay for the most expensive years of your medical life?
