I go the Nair route as well. Just do it at least 24 hours before hobbying otherwise it causes your shaft and balls to become numb and makes it really difficult to nut.

Also, Nairing it usually lasts longer, about 6 weeks for me. Trimming has me doing touch ups every 3 weeks or so.
