Ryan would let out a very audible grunt when he brought the heat, never withe the curve or change though. Didn't matter. The ball was in the catcher's glove by the time the sound made it to the batter.

^^^ Could not agree more! While his numbers were down considerably this season, having him in the dugout was always like having an extra bullet in a 6-shooter shootout.
I would love to have the time to research a utility player's impact being better than his during the 2017 season.

He new his role. He wasnt the best at any position and this years numbers proved he wasnt comfortable being an everyday starter. Some guys are just cut out to be that guy who can fill in anywhere he's needed but not to do it long term at any position. Billy Spiers was cut from that same mold.
Haven't thought of Spiers in a long time, but yes, he was the same type of impact player. An "ace up the sleeve" for any manager is such an important part of the chess game.
