So Where's Houston's Tax Revenue Coming From?

And you hate being called out on your bullshit...which is all the time.

^^bareback, not to be mean or anything, but i spent 3 years in law school, several years in practice, plus several years in academia. go to law school and we can revisit the issue when you finish your legal training. there are 2 good schools here and 1 that i wouldn't recommend unless as an absolute last resort. i don't really have any more to say on the topic. sorry i can't be more helpful.

hope you stay safe, and yes-unlike trump who does not feel empathy for people who are suffering-i really do feel terrible about everyone who has lost their jobs. it's like a poker game where you're dealt a crappy hand and you're short-stacked; there aren't really any options that are good. it just comes down to what's the best way to play your shitty hand. that's where we're at. we agree to disagree on what's the best way to play the shitty hand.

i'm not happy about the shutdown, but i don't want to see hundreds of thousands of Texans dying either. the expert analyses i've read from people who have studied this stuff indicate that our hand is really really shitty. i'm inclined to believe them over trump any day of the week. i don't think trump has the american people's interest in mind; he just wants to get reelected. if more people will die following his rec, tbh, i dont think he really cares one way or the other. (if you want to dig, research the sociopath personality disorder. i never knew why my old man-he was a bigshot trial lawyer-was such an asshole. when i researched the sociopath personality disorder, it all clicked.) that's just my opinion, but i dont want to argue about it any more. stay safe and healthy sir. I'm still waiting on those armed insurrections that were supposed to occur because of Trumps tweet.
Oh yeah, We're we supposed to be approaching 200k deaths by now?

Isn't it strange that no lockdown orders in Sweden has resulted in about the same number of deaths per million as other hard hit countries in the EU where severe lockdown orders have been in place for weeks. Sweden's approach is to quickly build herd immunity which is achieved when 60% of the population has contracted the virus and are then immune. They are quickly approaching that number.

Here's an idea: Maybe Mayor Turner can run a life insurance scam like he did 30 years ago but on a much larger scale. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Why hasn't Mayor Turner posted the revenue shortfall numbers? The alcohol revenue numbers are out there. What about the sales tax? Other things like Stadium tax on car rentals?

I haven't seen it. 2% of the sales tax is for the city. It's got to be a significant dent.

But I agree that it doesn't support his narrative of keeping the city on lockdown.

He won't need it for the "infrastructure" improvements he promised when running, since "shelter in place" keeps people off the streets and out of public transportation.

.... you seriously think the city or county government doesn't have ways to generate additional revenue? that's about the dumbest thing i've ever heard. get off your high horse and worry about shit that is your problem. Originally Posted by pxmcc

Surely as an adjunct instructor in "hotel law" you should know! (Not to mention the "three" years of "law school" and ......?
I've got it! A mask tax! Each mask has to have a $200 city of Houston stamp fully displayed whenever in use. Failure to display $2000 fine. Gloves also. We may want mandate those disposable shoe coverings since folks just drop their masks and gloves in the parking lot, especially when it rains. (thanks ll) The virus is supposed to "live" up to 12 days outside the human body.
