Aaah Lea and Chan,
It is a delight to hear you discuss the dance.
Alas, my Jitterbug days are gone. Not that I do not like the intensity- but sadly that much high energy and the dance is over too soon- even if I am still "In the Mood".
You are correct Lea, about the waltz. To waltz well requires that one be focused on ones partner- to look for ways to be in rhythm and flow. The Jitterbug will tolerate much pushing and shoving, but the waltz requires graceful surrender.
These days however, I think of the Tango as ideal for a man of my own years. It retains the fire and intensity of close connection and a very purposeful attention to your partner's movements. With courage and communication, amazing athleticism and fire are possible, but without the frenetic expenditures of the Jitterbug. And like the waltz, a tango can be extended, brought near a peak over and over, only moving to the final steps when it is time- and with such subtlety that no rush to or through is created.
