Favorite older movie of all time

"Lonesome Dove" is awesome.

The Sandlot (It came out in 1993 which means I was 9. So its old to me)

Lonesome Dove, Godfather 1 & 2. The Searchers

The Original "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with Michael Rennie. The remake was a ad for the "worlds coming to an end" groups and really not a REMAKE.

The original "Manchurian Candidate" is another good one.

I'm appalled that there's not a single film save "Casablanca" on these lists that pre-dates 1965.

And The Princess Bride (1987), Women on the Verge of Nervous Breakdown (1988) and La Femme Nikita (1990) were all released 20 years ago or more. It's not like they finished their run at the suburban multiplex yesterday.

I was so dazzled by seeing lists of films from the film-bankrupt 80s and 90s that I failed to see the occassional one like the Maltese Falcon.

I know more than a few people in the film industry, and almost to a man [or woman] they consider that the golden age of American cinema was in the 1970s. I agree with them, and I actually didn't believe that Birth of a Nation was the best film ever. It's actually a horrible peice of pro-KKK propaganda that President Wilson was STUPID ENOUGH to believe was true.

I was expecting to start a firestorm on this thread by making such an outrageous statement because I like to kick up a lot of shit from time to time, but no one took the bait because nobody knew what it was LOL.
