Heck, I've thought some guys were total idiots here, but they turned out to be nice guys in person. I have no doubt that the same applies to providers; I'm sure there are several who rub me the wrong way online, but who'd be a whole lot of fun to play with BCD. What's the upside of running them off?

In short: If you run off providers, there's less fun to go around. That's the harm to hobbyists. To the provider involved, it's more direct: You are fucking with her source of income. Only a fool does that lightly.

Re the Isle of Misfit Toyz...I would say those that make the journey because they like being an ass online...are certainly welcome to do so...but they'd miss the point. Regardless, it's a perfect place for behavior that would be labeled as antisocial in many settings, and you've got to have a sense of humor to hang out there. This is well known amongst the Islanders, and that's a key reason they go there.

In the past few months, I've seen a huge number of posts here that would fit into the culture of the Island, but are totally at odds with what goes on here. Group dynamics being what they are, some folks go along with it, and that's fine... until someone gets hurt, or their business gets screwed up because of it.

It's a matter of degree, and some of the guys here are so focused on showing what he-men they are that they lose track of the fact that their actions do have impact on others.
