Monday, January 17th, is MLK Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day...the holiday signed into law by republican president Ronald Reagan. There's never a petard around when you need one. Originally Posted by the_real_Barleycorn

We have deluded ourselves into believing the myth that capitalism grew and prospered out of the Protestant ethic of hard work and sacrifice. The fact is that capitalism was built on the exploitation and suffering of black slaves and continues to thrive on the exploitation of the poor—both black and white, here and abroad. If Negroes and poor whites do not participate in the free flow of wealth within our economy, they will forever be poor, giving their energies, their talents and their limited funds to the consumer market but reaping few benefits and services in return. The way to end poverty is to end the exploitation of the poor, ensure them a fair share of the government services and the nation’s resources. Originally Posted by N6_in_the_village

Water projects in Tennessee? You mean the TVA created in 1933?
In Aug of 1959 President Eisenhower made TVA self-financing.
And someone "making good" for owning slaves? To the former Confederate states? Johnson "make good"? Right.
You push the "Big Lie", little lies, and every lie in between.

You bring up the TVA and then lamely try to assert I did. You sound like a Russian Collusion advocate. Making it up as you go along.

That middle school history is remarkable isn't it.

I encourage everyone to read the truth about mlk. Hes not the man people propped up as a leader. Plagiarism infidelity and not really a well liked person around his peers.
Dont be afraid to read and tell the truth about this man.
At the end he condoned violence [rioting and looting] instead of peaceful marches.
Call me a racist. IDC But the truth is there about mlk and to some it hurts!

Judging a person based on the content of their character is a long dead concept in the woke society. Democrats have no business even mentioning his name, their outlook is antithetical to everything King espoused.

A good and long time friend of mine "marched" with Rev King and was beaten with gasoline hoses wrapped in barbed wire by the police and left in a ditch along the road. The other marchers didn't tend to him, but a pickup of KKK picked him up and took him to a hospital. Until he died he wore those scars on his back. I've seen similar scars from horrendous burns after "recovery."

Apparently, the current group of CommunistSocialistNaziLiberals perceive that violence is acceptable and consider it "peaceful protest." That's good as far as I am concerned, because then they will understand and accept the consequences. King should not have been executed.

It's a primer on revisionist transformation to communism. Hitler did much the same with respect to the Jewish people. The current noise is from folks who learned well from the teachings of the "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich." They just haven't gotten to the "Fall" part.
so many errors and taught or self-taught misinformation

There is always a distinction of "being there" versus just "hearing about it"!

Boasting about LBJ is hardly impressive?

I guess one has to have lived in and around the consequences of LBJ politics and his close group of political "friends" to know him better.

It was Senator Strom Thurman who used the filibuster against LBJ's 1964 Civil Rights Act. Strom Thurman was a Republican.

You do know that Democrats and Dixiecrats are two different things. John F. Kennedy and "Bull" Connor were not in the same party. For political purposes you try to lump the dixiecrats with the democrats. Their political beliefs were totally different.

Thurmond changed parties later in the year but Byrd voting against the Voting Rights Act of 1965 thus confirming his hatred of people of color. Wasn't that just so democrat of him?

When I think of LBJ there are several recollections:

#1 is Gulf of Tonkin ... took over 50 years to show it was false.
2. Daily briefings from the FBI with enemy files to review.
3. 290 out of South Austin to the "Hill Country"
4. Being drunk on election evening when his victory was announced.
5. His daughters at UT Austin!
6. The humor made of Texas cemetery voting lists.

Question? Was there any rioting or looting last night?

another tidbit about johnson, he had his eye on a 19 year old intern

johnson repaired to his johnson city ranch bringing the intern

in the wee small hours of the morning, johnson appeared in her bedroom shining a pencil flashlight

he only said, "move over, this is your president"
