Tom Cotten wants to boycott the Olympics coming up in China

It's only every four years. If athletes are lucky, they get to participate in only 2 of them. If they are really really lucky 3 of them. And if they are just so much better than others that they start in their teens and are still elite in their early 30's they get 4. But there is a reason that father time remains undefeated in the shelf life of an athlete - age and attrition are unavoidable eventually. Originally Posted by Lucas McCain

Most of them have to qualify and the majority have only one chance. The super athletes get more than one but they are rare and we remember them because they are rare. Unlike Jimmy Carter, the US and other interested countries could have their own competition and show the world. So, some Chinese guy skis downhill in a half second longer time than some guy in Boulder. We, the world, knows who is the real winner. Maybe we could finally get smart and host the Olympics around the world in different, smaller, less expensive venues. Originally Posted by the_real_Barleycorn

Now we have our Liberal/Progressive/Socialist/Democrat Posters giving us that old “moral equivalent” bullshit.

“these governments are just as good as ours, only different”

This tells you where they are coming from.

I have questioned in the past if our form of government is the best vs more authoritarian types such as Russia, China, Saudi Arabia.

Isn't that the question or paradox? Originally Posted by WTF

But if China is beating us to the economic punch, which is what it seems many of you are implying...the question was...Is our form of government best for what basically is a world competition?

Not sure where moral equivalence came into play.

But back to the Olympics...can't a free society such as our let each athlete decide? Much like abortion or gun ownership or vaccinations?

Shouldn't that be the default answer when there is disagreement?
... Makes sense...

Boycotting is a political statement. Which is fine, but it
needs to hold water.... Boycotting the Olympics 'cause
"China's Bad" surely dont mean anything much-any while
the NBA is in bed with them. ... Can't have it both ways.
