Early on there were aircraft "experts" who "speculated" as to what would require a course deviation to an acceptable landing spot ..... and what gauntlet of detection would be facing the aircraft if that were the case. Connect the dots that we have, try to imagine where other dots should be if we had them and we have an act of terrorism in order to get an aircraft intact. The passengers? Unnecessary to the plan. We have a bunch of aeronautical experts who say that the 777 can land or take off in less than 5,000 feet which increases the possible landing spots (not including straight roads) greatly. This was not a Hail Mary operation. Like 9/11 this was well thought out. They probably not one but a few alternate landing sites.

Okay, they have the plane. What are they going to do with it? 9/11 comes to mind again. That plane can hold tons of explosives, radiological material, a WMD, or a biological. It can fly 6,000 to 8,000 miles depending on the payload at 600 knots. So what is the target? Probablly not the US but we would hesitate to shoot down an unknown airliner sqawking a friendly code. No, they went after the financial center of the western world and now they can go after the one for the eastern world (Tokyo, ShangHai, Hong Kong, or Mumbai)

Malaysia seeks help in finding more debris from Flight 370

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysian officials said Sunday that they would seek help from territories near the island where a suspected piece of the missing Malaysia Airlines jet was discovered to try to find more possible debris from the plane.

Government officials will ask territories near the French island of Reunion to alert them if they find any debris that could be from a plane, said a transport ministry official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media

A wing flap suspected to be from the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was found Wednesday on Reunion island, in the western Indian Ocean. It arrived Saturday at a French military testing facility, where it will be analyzed by experts.

Air safety investigators, including one from Boeing, have identified the component as a flaperon from the trailing edge of a Boeing 777 wing, a U.S. official has said. Flight 370 is the only missing 777 and many are convinced the flap comes from the ill-fated jet.

Malaysia's transport ministry confirmed Sunday that the flaperon has been identified as being from a 777, saying it had been verified by French authorities together with Boeing, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and a Malaysian team.

Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said in a statement that the Department of Civil Aviation is reaching out to authorities in territories near Reunion to allow experts "to conduct more substantive analysis should there be more debris coming on to land, providing us more clues to the missing aircraft."

French aviation experts will try to establish whether the wreckage that was found on Reunion comes from Flight 370, which disappeared on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.

The experts will start their inquiry on Wednesday, according to the Paris prosecutor's office. On Monday, an investigating judge will meet with Malaysian authorities and representatives of the French aviation investigative agency, known as the BEA.

My recollection of discussions in the media was more along the lines of the obstacles that would have had to be overcome to affect a redirection (do you call it "re-vectoring" to sound "aviator-like" in your bullshit) ... of the aircraft and the range of the aircraft at varying altitudes to accomplish a "safe arrival."

How one or more people on here posted their own take on those scenarios doesn't involve me. But in your struggle to seem "relevant" and "all-knowing" entertain yourself with your own speculations as to who posted what and when.
