Old news or Upcoming Trouble?
Not a lawyer. But the nature of the charges and the laws surrounding what is considered private communications means that there is a good chance the LE can trawl through members posts and PMs to look for evidence against the indicted, if they have not done so. They do NOT need a search warrant.
There are ways to do this, both legally and technically, that would keep the site owners from knowing this up until the information was given to their defense lawyers after the arraignment.
Anything else they find along the way is fair game if they desire to pursue more investigations.
They don't need to read the board, just dump the database. Things that appear to be deleted when you use the board might still be in the db.
Anything actually submitted as case evidence becomes public record. Fodder for the press.
They of course, can release/leak any of it.
They can (unless you took precautions) use server logs to match posts and PMs with your ISP account, (thus getting a real name, or at least where you live).
Last bit of info. I left the site before all this crap, when I became aware that ladies were not just reviewing gents for behavior in the ladies' part of the site, but often adding anything that slipped in pillow talk, and appearance stuff. Age. Weight. Tattoos. Mentioned kids, or work, or hobbies etc. Stuff I would have gotten banned for if I posted it about a lady in Guys Room.
Good stuff, Geekman. Not a lawyer either. Never active on Indys, but here's my two cents.
If they seized the site owner's computer, LE surely has all it needs to pursue charges against him and the other defendants. But let's be real. The site itself has over 40,000 members and providers who used handles and dummy email addresses to register. Digging up actual names from all those IP addresses and ISP servers would be a painstaking and colossal waste of effort. It would be stupid for LE to go down that rabbit hole except to chase child pornographers, terrorists and the like. There is nothing akin to a brothel madam's black book or phone records here. If anyone knows of an actual site (hobbyist or other) whose members all had their anonymity blown by LE (or hackers), let's hear about it.
I thought PI got popped several years ago and got off. I have not been on indys in quite a while.
It's funny that it was mentioned that LE was at a party. I understood that several high rancking members were LE. Makes one wonder how many politicians, city fathers, pillars of the community, etc are members.

I looked just now and there were 7,337 online on Eccie. And over 209,000 members. So, much larger database here.
HE seems to have the run of things in the PA area..that is about to change Im sure of it.
I HOPE this board stays drama free, I just love the good banter, but when the rude picking on and name calling starts towards each other, It becomes not fun and no one wants to post anymore.
Ladies are SICK of boards where they get degraded and belittled,,Hence most ladies wont even post on TER main boards anymore.
It comes down to this folks...
1. LE is on Indys. LE is on Eccie. LE is on TER. Have been for a long time and will be for as long as the sites are around. To think otherwise is just foolish.
2. The charges are going to have to be a lot bigger than solicitation for them to comb through the network and try to match a handle with a hobby email, with an IP address, etc. The resources simply arent there to shell out just to get a misdemeanor conviction.
3. If you are dumb enough to give people in this hobby your real name, etc then you are asking for your info to be published, leaked, etc.
4. If you are relying on the internet or someone from the internet to keep you safe you are a numnuts. If you gave Indys your credit card number instead of a card, you are a numnuts.
Your thoughts if any?

Agreed!
I thought you could only do either paypal or there, not cc cards AG?
but if it came down to it, I would think they could trace both of those also anyways, couldnt they?

If you're not using a hobby phone, I really can't imagine what you're thinking. Giving out personal info in the heat of the moment is just .....reckless.
Hell - look at that 'ripoffreport' that Charlotte posted. It shows actual posts from indys that discuss how the ladies review the clients, how they find it useful to include cell phone numbers, identifying characteristics, personal info., etc., Those 'client reviews' are far out of the control of the lady you saw - once the info is out there, you've put yourself at risk .

Remember they have the people they want already. Any squeezing they were going to do to get info probably was done already.

This entire thread reads like a bunch of wishful thinking from people who have a beef with Indys. This site is no different, there's just less people posting in the Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. If you think you are somehow less safe on Indys than you are here, you're just delusional or your burping on sour grapes. The Indys site is legal. If LE thought they could shut it down, they would have a long time ago, as well as this site, Backpage, Eros, TER, NR and all the other hundreds of escort sites out there.
Stig, I thinck you miss the point. LE is not going after the sites, they are going after the owners, and staff. Money laundering is real. If there is a connection between the dots it could get real ugly.
