John McClain says the Texans might be eyeing Brian Gaine from the Buffalo Bills as Rick Smith's replacement.
I'm not seeing a definitive news source saying Rick fired. Please provide a link. Thanks.

Go to Texans web page or tweeter feed for statement by Rick. Not fired, taking leave of absence

Yes. Rick smith NOT fired! He is at the Texans podium now. Says his title will be "Executive Vice-President."

His wife has cancer. She was diagnosed with cancer last September. These are very difficult times for him and his family.

In his interview, he emphasized the Texans have "a lot of work to be done."

He discussed the dynamics and responsibilities of his job.

He emphasized "roles an responsibilities" are still being discussed with Mr. McNair.

He states "the hiring of a G.M. is a fluid process."

Says he will "right" the ship.

He applauds the entire football operations staff.

He really knows how to be politically correct!

Best of luck to him and his family.

BOB at the podium now taking questions about the next potential G.M. He can't answer the media questions, merely saying " these guys are under contract."

Texans give BOB a four year extension!

BOB and the new G.M. will be working five years together with Mr. Gaine's new contract.

How do you think Rick Smith feels about the Texans hiring the guy he fired as the guy to replace him. Going to be hard for him to get started with no first or second round pick thanks to Rick

Rick Smith never has to work again and probably never will.
