NFL and Houston Texans Superthread: Are we ready for some football?
Great friggin' game tonight between The Browns and Bangels. It really had a fast pace college type of game.
Baker Mayfield was impressive and that Browns Defense really surprised me.
Burrow for Cincy threw some lasers but you can tell he has alot of learning to do to play pro.
Overall great watch! Go NFL!
Oh, doesn't matter to me, but sports announcer Joe Buck was surprised with an induction to the HOF.
Agree it was a good game and CLE played well.
I don't find Joe Buck entertaining or insightful but don't really mind him. IMO, he doesn't come close to deserving a HOF induction.
As much as I hated Howard Cosell as a football announcer and loved him as a boxing announcer, Cosell deserves the Football HOF more. And so does "Dandy Don."
I watched the highlights just now because I am an LSU and Burrow fan. I'm interested to see what he does. I thought he looked very poised, confident and deadly accurate. The speed of the game didn't seem to get to him. He made good throws on short scrambles when he had to. His weakness is and always has been taking snaps from under center, running PA where he has to turn his back to the line. He is incredibly uncomfortable doing that. It's as if when he gets back to looking downfield he is completely lost as to where everyone is on the field. He likes to keep everything in front of him and when he does he makes good decisions distributing the ball and even throwing receivers open. He can make all the throws whether it's a fade to the corner or a back shoulder come back. I just don't know if he can be top tier successful if he can't take snaps under center. It limits the looks that an OC can throw at a defense. At one point Burrow was something like 23/27 then toward the end of the game he was only 28/40. Not watching the game I don't know if it was that the Browns did but they found a way to take away some of his accuracy. Might have been that Cinci was down and Burrow was working to hard to make plays. He'll learn.
Mayfield on the other hand is completely comfortable turning his back and running PA and bootlegs. He is accurate, makes good decisions and has the footwork and quickness to get out of bad situations. I don't have as much interest in Mayfield but I was impressed with what I saw.
The Bengals don't appear to have any better defense this year than they did last. Burrow can be the best QB in the league but if they can't stop anyone it won't matter. Defense wins championships.
The Texans are a paper team. This year they will get soundly beat by equal or better teams but will look good against the worse teams giving everyone false hope. Would not be surprised if the Jags, Titans and Colts split with them. I expect the Titans to win the division. Every area of the team is just so-so, nothing stands out. The receivers can't get separation so Watson can't make quick throws. Going to be a hard year.
BO'B might be the silver lining to 2020...........that is if he gets fired.
Fun fact, the Texans have never finished higher offensively than 15th while BoB had been here
I was not able to catch the game today. I know they lost, but how did they look? Watson get beat to hell?
First have they moved at will. Clicked on passing game. Second half could not stop Steelers running game and could not run the ball or pass the ball
Anybody think that if Texans lose the game to Minnesota BoB is gone? Especially if not competitive.
Hard to believe that Gardner Minshew II has a better QBR, better completion percentage, more yards and the same number of TDs as Watson. O and 5 is a strong possibility, against a team with only 1 win.
Kick that SOB BO'B to the curb. He will go down as a coach that wasted the talent and careers of a lot of good players because his lack of leadership, bad coaching and his ego got in the way of winning.
.
Well glad I'm not watching!!
Texans Fire Bill O'brien!!! it's about damn time!!! LOL.
