Why the hell should blacks (or whites, for that matter) let the issue of deep and pervasive racism "go away". Why not keep the "pot stirred" since most of us (I think) agree that racism and discrimination is wrong (although threads like this make me wonder). And shockingly, why the hell shouldn't the issue of deep and pervasive racism be "on the fore front [sic]?" I can't think of a better place for it. Other than deep and pervasive poverty, and the government driven upward redistribution of wealth in our society, I can't think of any other issue that deserves to be on the forefront with racism. i think most of us agree that racism is a bad thing, and all would also agree that, although things are much better today than in the past, it is still prevalent and will continue to be so for a long time.

so let me ask you a question... if, by some miracle, our government got it's collective head out of its ass and legalized prostitution, among consenting adults...would you support legislation that required girls to see anybody that requested an appointment?

i understand that a burger joint should serve anybody that walks through the door that has cash money, but their employees don't have to take their clothes off, get on their knees and put a customer's dick in their mouth do they? they don't have to let the customer hump away on them for a while, all the while pretending they are enjoying their precious time together. their customers rarely get asked if they do cim, greek, msog. it's easy for a liberal person like yourself (i'm very liberal myself btw) to decry racism/discrimination and all. but come on...this is an entirely different business. i feel for those that get turned down and all, but i think there are many reasons for girls to not see some guys. and, as much as i hate the racist element in our society, i just don't get those that think providers should see someone they don't want to see, for whatever reason. hell...i'm a white guy and i DO NOT see white girls. because i choose not to. maybe someday...but i doubt it.

I've never really understood the whole racism thing. I am Welsh/Irish (with a few born on "the wrong side of the blanket" in my lineage), one of my main squeezes in HS was African-American, another Korean, the first woman I ever proposed to was Germanic (parents from the *other* side of the Berlin Wall, if any of you whippersnappers remember that), and my (as of just a few ago, ex-) fiancée, Colombian.

What matters *should* be the person, not their skin (we are all the same race -- human) but if an individual makes that choice, I won't judge. Okay, maybe I will point and laugh. Who here can honestly say that if Halle Barry or (for the young ladies) Isaiah Mustafa threw themselves at you -- Lucy Liu or Jet Li -- Salma Hayek or Esai Morales -- Megan Fox or Ryan Reynolds (anyone want to chime in with another pair?), you would duck?

That being said, it is a *choice* made by all directly involved, and the reasons behind that choice are no one's business but those making making that choice.

The point is that I've noticed this getting worse; worse because it seems to be more acceptable to hold the attitude. But I'm nothing if not a free-market guy. The provider has a choice, and should insist on preserving that choice, but what JB went through is becoming more and more acceptable. It's lamentable, yes, but we cannot ask providers to risk their safety even if we think the perception of risk is groundless. JPdM is right; there hasn't yet been a solution, and there won't be.

If prostitution were to be legal, I would not have a problem with the government letting individual prostitutes decide who the see. Nor would I have a problem with those who base their selection criteria only on race being branded as racist, and treated by polite society as such, complete with the ostracism that should come with such a label.
