From the Reconstruction Period through the 1960's the Democratic Party in control of Texas was pretty much the same Party, and many of the "standards" of the State and local governments remained the same as far as elected officials and "authority" .... they were established to maintain voter control over the offices, which included judgeships, so as to allow the majority, who were white, to control local and state governments.

The split of the Democratic Party around the time of John Connally (who changed Parties after he was Governor) and an increase in the Republican Party broke up the Democratic domination of Texas politics, which began in the mid-1970's ... and has progressed to the current environment.

During the domination by the Democratic Party poll taxes were imposed to suppress voting, the Governor controlled appointments, and political offices were practically handed down from one Democrat to another.

So contrary to your attempt to rewrite history, the Democrats (Lyndon Johnson Democrats) had control of Texas politics for roughly 100 years.....and for the most part the Texas experience was the same throughout the Southern States. George Wallace was a Democrat.

John Kennedy was reluctant to "support" the Civil Rights legislation in the 60's because he was concerned he would lose the South in his re-election. It was not the "Republicans" in the South that concerned him.

Sound familiar? Not much has changed with loud-mouthed liberals.

Obnoxious, annoying, and unrealistically over-stuffed with self-aggrandizement.

You obviously weren't present back then, but you've acquired the characteristics.

And when I said the "Party" didn't do shit, that wasn't a mistake either.

McGovern? 40 years ... the base has "not come a long way" .... in fact the current batch wants to keep new voters crossing the river ... to the "promise land" .... of promised entitlements to entice them to stay and vote. Is that where you fit in?

As for your Reagan quote....you make my point. Look whose paying to support republican beliefs. Openly racist hate organizations. Originally Posted by timpage

His beliefs and values weren't for sale at any price. If you wanted to give him money to follow HIS program, he would take it.

We don't know why the hate groups are giving the GOP money. Even they know there is no way segregation is coming back. Most likely they donate to the GOP because they think they are the lesser of two evils.

Kind of like when I voted for Libertarian Bob Barr in 2008 instead of McCain and Obama instead of Romney in 2012.

I didn't like Barr or Obama, but they were the lesser of two evils and the GOP needed to be punished for electing two mopes in a row.
