I've had SB's want me to pay rent or a bill in exchange for a session(s), but that's been a while back. As far as providers, no, cash only. Yes and I see nothing wrong with it if both parties are EQUALLY satisfied about their compensation. Photo sessions or other qualified serivices, (tech, motor, ect) are perfectly acceptable in my eyes; but only after I've known him for enough time to feel comfortable doing so. Merchandise is harder for me though, because if I'm buying electronics I'll want them new. I'm also a minimalist so i won't trade for stuff unless I actually need it.

Before I got into the hobby, I did definitely go the shopping route, and occasionally wouldn't mind doing that

I agree though that it's best to meet each other previously before getting into a barter deal.
