Seriously though, no one seems to have really so I'll answer your question. Dearhunter is a mod,yes , but not of any city’s forum. For the purposes of Houston boards or any other board he does not moderate, DH is no different from any other member in terms of authority. He's not a part of the "hierarchy" whatever that means.

Admittedly DH likes to stir the pot and push the boundaries lmao...and since Moderators cannot receive infractions he likes to use that immunity to point out when he sees what he feels are moderators making shit up as they go along. Sometimes he does that directly but more often he himself will repeatedly do what other members have been pointed for in order to demonstrate that, in his opinion, it's bullshit to begin with. This often leads to gnashing of teeth from said moderators and an incorrect perception of members, who don't know the guidelines as well as they think they do, that dh gets away with rule violations.

Any other mod could do the same, we're all immune to the typical infraction system, but DH seems to have a passion for it and, as he is not a moderator of any city's forum, the potential blowback is rather nonexistent.

In my opinion, if a mod is making shit up as he goes along then he deserves whatever DH sends his way. If he isn't and can defend himself sufficiently then everyone benefits from the transparent exchange that occurs. Since the mod cannot exert pressure in other ways to silence DH like they can with a regular member (in the form of directives followed by infractions), DH "puts him to the wheel" until he tires of it. In modtardville a mod can ignore DH but I guess he figures if he does it publicly they've got to address it sooner or later if it picks up enough steam. My observation is that it's effective. Mods are ultimately accountable to the membership and any decision they make needs to be able to stand up under scrutiny or they probably shouldn't have made it.

If Dh was truly out of line and in violation of guidelines himself then any mod could bring it up in modtardville if the mod had a problem with it. However, he knows the guidelines and tends to “pick his battles” well and as such to my knowledge that has never ended the way the modtard thought it would.

Some mods seem irritated by that. I have no idea why unless it's just some kind of authoritarian ego driven thing. Personally I think it serves a useful function and besides people should be (and are) able to do whatever the fuck they want in here unless they violate guidelines, Dh included. Also, I try not to make shit up as I go along so while DH and I have had our policy disagreements on some of the gray areas they've been few and far between. On matters of board policy I tend to agree with him far more than I disagree.

TL : DR
Yes he's a mod. No he has no authority in Houston. Yes he likes to mix things up and plays his games in his own way, same as everyone else. Some mod's don't like that but who cares. That's his prerogative.

I figured I'd give a thorough response and now anytime some fucktard sends me a whiny PM about Dh acting like he runs the place or supposedly "getting away with breaking the rules" I'll just refer them here Originally Posted by SpiceItUp

OK, here's where we agree to disagree. I say that if dh (or anybody else) is a mod (if he has access to the moderator and administration forums then he's a mod) then he should set an example to the other members, not start stuff because he can. That's wrong at any level. It's not the job of moderators to incite and start stuff, not today, tomorrow, or any other day.

So, what do I mean by follow the rules? Let's look at the eccie rules for a second.

http://www.eccie.net/announcement.php?f=5

Members are free to 'copy and paste' any part of these guidelines into other areas or into posts which may answer a question or address an issue brought up by another member
  • #1 - Avoid cases of unprovoked rudeness to others. No place for it here. Yes, with the dynamic nature of the threads and topics, tempers will flare and things will become heated from time to time. You may often encounter individuals who become passionate or emotional when expressing one's opinion or point of view. That's all understood and perfectly acceptable within reason…….but, start slamming or bashing another member and be met with consequences.
Are there consequences for calling ladies 'fat whores', etc.? I would consider that to be unprovoked rudeness.

  • #2 - Derogatory racial remarks are simply unacceptable, period. Disrespect another's ethnic background and you will most certainly regret it.
I want to invite any non African American to visit the 3rd or 5th wards with me and use the term Negro to their face. The term Negro may not be derogatory, but to the African Americans my gut feeling is that it's unacceptable and perhaps derogatory.

  • #3 - Disrespect to others, IN GENERAL, will be considered an item of low tolerance, especially when posting in our coed forums. Follow the Golden Rule and treat others as you wish to be treated yourself. This applies to fellow members as well as staff. We do not require that you have respect for us, but we do require that you treat us respectfully in the public forums. If you feel the need to vent, gripe, or blow off some steam regarding a staff member's action or decision, we ask that you keep it private. Email, RTM, or the PM system would be the appropriate avenue to take in such cases. In cases where you would like to request additional clarity about a staff decision, you are free to pursue an answer in either a public forum or private means of communication. If handled publicly, post your inquiry in a respectful manner.
  • #4 - Blatant insults or hostility toward another member will be met with staff intervention. This applies to using our coed forums for name calling, personal attacks, or vulgar slang terms to describe fellow members. If you have legitimate concerns about another member here, share them tactfully in the appropriate private forums or with staff.
There have been threads in the Houston general discussion areas such as ladies showing new pictures, ladies asking if they should visit Houston, etc. and they are totally full of rude and classless comments. I would call those blatant insults. Plus it's disrespect, which according to the board rules is an item of low tolerance.

There are a lot of things I could saw about the Houston forums, general discussion area, but I'm trying to be respectful. You can go to the GD area and on any page you will see many items of complete and total disrespect, you know the thing that is held to being an item of low tolerance

Look, this isn't church..com or baptist..com and I realize that. Most of us have or are still living on the 'edge', however does that give us the right to totally disregard any semblance of having normal decency? If you're going to see a lady who's heavy set are you going to say "come on you fat whore, let's fuck?"If anybody decides to go up to a 'brother' and call him Negro, please let me know so I can watch the ass kicking that will surely come. I will supply the straw that you will be using as an eating utensil for the next month.

No doubt some are proud of the reputation the Houston forums have, however I feel that more are disgusted with the reputation that Houston has.

Lastly I thought there was a forum on eccie that members can more or less have a free for all and get rowdy. This is fine, however it seems to spill over to the Houston forums and not everybody wants to play that game.
