That leads to a serious question: Do we need a standardized scale for stupid, abusive posts? clearly it should be measured in "IBs", and I would suggest a scale of 1 to 100 since that is pretty standard. a "1" would be something like a short, factual statement that has no hint of hostility either overt or covert. A "100" would be reserved for some of truly historic IB meltdowns of the past. They should be given out very rarely. I can't imagine the scale would be linear, but probably should be exponential, after all there have been some seriously hostile, abusive, and amazingly stupid posts on this forum already, and it seems IB still has some growth potential. Of course, given the nature of this Forum, I would expect every post on here gets at least 10 IBs--if there was zero hostile intent it would have been posted in a different forum.

It will take a while to calibrate the scale, so for now I will take on the serious but valued task of assessing IBs earned on any given post.
