I still can't bring myself to vote for Trump. I could go through the litany of reasons, but you already know them.
But I'm damn sure voting for Cornyn for Senator and the Republican candidate for the House in my district. If the Republicans lose the Senate, and I think they will, we're hosed. Pelosi, Biden, even Trump are raring to spend $2 or $3 trillion more on stimulus, and the only thing standing in their way are about 30 Republican Senators. Then there's ending the filibuster and packing the supreme court. When I throw out the reasons why I'm not voting for Trump, my friends always bring up, "but look at all the judges he appointed." That's potentially about to backfire in a huge way. Biden and the Democrats may even pack appeals courts.
The problem, I don't see a likely scenario where we win 51 Senate seats, and think it's even more unlikely Trump wins. Ernst and Tillis would both have to win to get 51 seats. And we've got to hold Montana and Georgia. We'll be lucky if the Senate ends up 50/50 and Kamala Harris is the deciding vote. Although as I think Captain Midnight pointed out, there may be enough moderate Democratic Senators out there to keep us from fucking up big time.
A decent outcome in my opinion would be if the Republican Party ends its love affair with Donald Trump and makes more rational choices for candidates going forward, who can appeal to a broader base. If the AOC/Bernie Sanders wing of their party continues to make inroads, the Democrats eventually will fuck up, just like the hard left did in Europe. And Republicans will come roaring back, like they did in the 1980's.
