Well you're right no telling what would have happened if a firearm would have been at the disposal of the employee. Signs indicating "Gun Free Zones" are not infringements on the second amendment. They are set in place for a reason and that reason is this, a person can be criminally charged with caring a concealed weapon in areas of "Gun Free Zones" even if you have a permit to carry concealed. Common areas that you might see "Gun Free Zones" signs would be Hospitals and clinics, Schools, Governmental Buildings, sporting events and Research Centers. Iam sure there's others. But as we all know anything can happen regardless of signs, and even the law.

And I certainly agree that signs are not an effective deterrent to some idiot who wants to carry weapons where they are not wanted.

The only thing such "Gun Free Zones" accomplish is to keep LAW ABIDING folks from carrying. I have to ask, why do folks think that if the law forbidding MURDER or KILLING don't stop folks with guns or knives or whatever weapons.. why do they think a "law" or "rule" against them bringing a gun into the "Gun Free Zone" will stop them? That makes absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever. Originally Posted by RedLeg505

To the best of my knowledge, no one has ever been shot in any of my company's buildings. If a student at the University of Texas - Austin wants to carry a handgun into a dormitory, classroom, or administrative office they do so with the understanding that they will be dismissed from school for doing so.

Why are there gun free zones? The people who are responsible for the gun free zones have determined that there is a greater risk in allowing people to carry concealed handguns than in not allowing them to do so.
