I don't think its genesis was in the real action of any American but truly was borne in the pathology of the name-calling foreigners who outwardly viewed americans with disdain, based in large measure, on their own unresolved jealous envy leading to, as a defense mechanism, the use of this term, for people are people the world over and a lout is a lout, no matter the nationality
it can be readily inferred that this poster, by his insertion of the word "typical" in front of and in conjunction with the term "ugly American", thinks many, if not most americans, are unnaturally loutish
and when the phrase "typical ugly American" is used by a person who holds American citizenship, it reveals much about that person. Its use is a unwitting revelatory window into the inner loathing by such a person of a fellow citizen holding traditional American principles of truth and fairness and republicanism and capitalism and the rule of law and who holds to the understanding that all men are created equal, things that once were in common agreement and made america, america. its a virulent rhetorical device separating that person and people he considers within his circle of superiority from the average "typical" "ugly" American ..for the person he applied this term to was doing naught but espousing common traditional American values
much like how Obama separated his superiority and all-knowingness from the "typical white person" when he called his very own grandmother a "typical white woman"
