And yet Trump got 5 million more votes than in 2016.
So either a whole lot more Republicans that didn't vote last time, did this time. Or a whole lot of Democrats and Independents changed to Trump. So if millions of Republicans walked away from Trump, millions more walked towards him.
The political scientist will be trying to figure this one out for a while considering there was no Blue Wave we ere promised. The tide creeped in at best.

Very few predicted a "blue wave", let alone promised it. Just prior to the election, a few pundits said a House gain for Democrats in the range of 5-15 seats was possible. Also a gain of 3 Senate seats was possible. Even if achieved, in my opinion that would not have been a "blue wave".
Other than the presidential race, it was a better than expected day for Republicans. That is very true.
