It's not about out-philosophizing someone. It's about the absurdity of it. Beyond the reach of religion, the persuasiveness of it fails mightily. It's about weighing the odds versus eternal punishment. Outside of a religious framework it simply doesn't work. He posits a deity. Not just a deity, but a christian deity.
