Reasons for not seeing someone. Provider or Hobbyist

How much does board persona influence your decision to see or not see someone and why?


Sometimes if I think a guy might be a jerk or I read his post history and he is mean on the board, I won't see him.

With regard to the first part...

A lot. I tend to glean an enormous amount of information from a provider's posts.
Based on this information, I'll then decide whether or not I think I might enjoy spending some time with them and then act accordingly. Often times, a provider will spark my interest if she posts something witty or sassy-intelligent....that will blip my Ho'dar. lol

With regard to the latter...

I totally 'get' that....A provider's online demeanor will most definitely cause my interest to change...not always proportionally, either. That's just the way it is. Certain personalities and characteristics I'm attracted to, others I'm not, so it makes no sense to spend my hard-earned Dollars going after someone who I'm not attracted to/someone I probably wouldn't enjoy spending time with.

By the same token, there have been some providers whom I've been attracted to, only to find out later, that they're really not anywhere near the persona they portray on the board/in the various forums.

That's what's so bad about this virtual age in which we live...It's so much more different than the one that I grew up in...when they come together, the reality is different than what was envisioned,

I've always had a knack for being able to read people and have always prided myself on being a pretty-good judge of character... But here lately, in the hobby, especially, I have missed that mark on more than a few occasions...missed it badly, too. I'm guessing because most of the communication is done electronically and I'm no able to read that person and am unable to gauge their reaction...and stuff like that...and that's likely where it breaks-down for me...

Live and learn, as they say, but it just sucks whenever you think you kind of know a person, only to discover that they're not the person they led you to believe...and they're actually just a turd floating in life's punch-bowl.

But all-in-all, I'm still keeping a pretty-good batting average. I've managed to cultivate some really good friendships and and I'm grateful for discovering them both......
