Do any of you guys know why this website has been running so ridiculously slow for about a full day?

It's nerve-wracking. There have been about 4000 people on the site every time I've checked the stats on the main page during that time -- which is roughly an average amount of traffic. Yet the site is handling throughput like there are well over twice as many people on it. Has this happened before?
