i disagree with his notion that the steam engine ended slavery. it didn't come into widespread use until after 1820. this is well before the british empire ended slavery in the early 1800's. the steam engine was not a factor in that decision. it certainly impacted slavery in later years when steam technology became more advanced, efficient, reliable and better.
