The Challenge is made: Gun Control

I know that in the past I have asked for a clean thread without the BS from people like WTF and others who just like to hear themselves talk but this is actually a serious conversation.

Too many here on the left have erroneously written that the right does not want to discuss alternatives. That is not true, but they persist. So, let's have that conversation. You can put forward your ideas of how to stop or reduce the number of mass shootings in this country. It has to be realistic, pass constitutional muster, and effective. Saying "getting rid of all guns" is a non-starter as you can't, it's not realistic, and would violate the Constitution.

The people in DC won't or can't act, the media lies, and Hollywood demagogues. Let's try to be better on this whore board. I haven't set the bar too high.

As a standard military practice, I will not offer my opinion first as it tends to shut down debate.

Oh, yes...if someone corrects your "knowledge" of a topic like magazine capacity or FPS, accept it and move on.

Do you accept the challenge?
I don't know that it is an easy situation to fix. A lack of respect for others, and bullying people till they agree with your position is part of the problem. Some get tired of the bullying and they finally snap and try to go out with a bang.

Part of the problem is also the way the news media covers these events. Instead of a short blurb, they draw the story out for usually at least a week, along with all the funerals. This actually provides motive for those that commit the crimes that they will be somewhat famous and people will finally take them seriously.

Another issue is all of the " zero tolerance " practices that schools have put in place. If you expel a student for bringing a gun to school when the gun was a tiny one in a lego set that is smaller than any real bullet it teaches kids the rules are not reasonable and can't be followed. It also decreases the ability of children to grow socially and interact with people in a social and civil manner.

One of the greatest problems teachers have is that children don't know how to play and work together with so many isolating themselves off via social media and text message.

No one from the right or the left has a solution.

Did this kind of gun violence happen throughout the history of America, or just recently ? If just recently,
what factors could be contributing to it ? Video games almost always have guns as part of the program. Records with destructive lyrics. Social media with outlandish opinions and no respect. Talks shows with no respect.

Or is it society in general ? Days not that far in the past where every man that went outside had to wear a hat (not by law, but by social mores).

A frequent statement made is if there is gun control, then only the criminals will have the guns. Maybe there is some truth to that. Maybe not. If only law enforcement and the criminals could obtain guns, would that be part of a solution, instead of a part of the problem ? It has never been tried.

Many other potentially harmful items are highly regulated by the government, with controlled access.

Mores (/ˈmɔːreɪz/, sometimes /ˈmɔːriːz/; from Latin mōrēs [ˈmoːreːs], plural form of singular mōs, meaning "manner, custom, usage, or habit") are social norms that are widely observed within a particular society or culture. Mores determine what is considered morally acceptable or unacceptable within any given culture.

That is not in the Bill of Rights.
