I was under the impression that it is illegal to buy or sell adult/sex toys in the state of Alabama. Maybe its just certain areas or countys and not the entire state.

Alabama has funny obscenity laws. You can buy toys, but only for educational purposes, so it is only illegal if you buy or sell with the intention to use them for the function in which they were manufactured for. So you go in the store pick out you want, sign the little receipt waiver that says you're buying for educational purposes (or whatever it says), and go on about your business.
