When I say "what people think the First Amendment is".. I'm talking of the folks who think that freedom of speech means freedom from consequences. Freedom of speech protects you (theoretically) from the government. I can say Trump is an asshole and I can't be punished by the government for that. However, if I post that on say... Facebook.. and my employer has a "no political posts" clause-- I can absolutely be fired and it isn't a violation of my rights. A president of a company can say shitty things online and its legal-- but it isn't a violation of their 1A when people opt to boycott. Hell-- the President himself has gone on the record telling folks to boycott a company because he didn't like their stance on political hats/shirts/clothing in their work environment.
Freedom of speech offers you zero protections from consequences in regards to private entities, companies, etc. It protects you from prosecution-- and even that has limits (inciting a riot is an example).
