Should The Living Relatives of Union Soldiers Killed in the Civil War Recieve Reparations?

They died fighting for the abolishment of slavery.

Who knows how far their family’s could have prospered if there Great, Great, Great Grandfather had not died fighting so others could be free.

Perhaps the decedents of slaves could split the reparations.

Short answer, no. Nor should the ancestors of those killed in Normandy, other than whatever survivor benefits accrued at the time, heroic though they were. Stupid question.
RD, didn’t you know that policies were put in place for near a century to harm union soldiers kids. They couldn’t vote. They were precluded home ownership and economically disadvantaged intentionally by the govt.

The right wingers on this forum are some of the stupidest people alive. And proud of it.

A number of black people owned slaves in the antebellum days. Do we bust them down to nothing? Execute them outright? Or give them millions of dollars in reparations? Careful how you answer lefties, most white (or whatever) Americans never owned slaves.
1BM, sorry, but not aware of such policies, but would appreciate links. My thoughts were related to those killed in war, Union or Rebel....not related to slavery at all...or the reason for the war.

That said, reparations arising from settlement of a war should be limited to what was agreed in the settlement ending the war at that time.
Think about what I wrote.

40 acres and a mule was a wartime order of General Sherman and not the policy of the federal government. The claim of reparations has no validity as the Confederate Government no longer exists. But if you want to insist, 40 acres (depending on where it is) is maybe worth $200,000 and a mule if a few thousand. There's your baseline right there. Though I think that black Americans need to stand in line behind Native Americans who got a shitty stick earlier.
... Wait half-a-mo there, mate.

Wasn't it a 'andful of Australians who sailed over and FIRST
discovered America - and found Indians here along-with
Norse-men from the North?

And come to mention - some o' the earliest black-skinned
people in the California area were actually Aborigine.

So to be fair, WE need to be in that early line
for reparations also. ...

Just sayin'

Not to mention Cro Magnons who likely intermingled with most of our ancestors. They deserve reparations! We all get a check! YIPPIE! BS thread....some here really need to ..nevermind
