Who?
Exactly. Obscure, yet iconic figure. A tv/radio institution for decades, especially for new yorkers. He had Reagan on 5 times; John and Yoko Lennon, Madonna, Rudy Vallee, and many many others. For years his TV show didn't come on until 1 am in the morning ! On any given night Joe would have a mix of famous and not so famous - think John Lennon sitting on the interview couch next to some guy dressed up as a tomato!

This might have more cultural significance for you...an SNL spoof of the Joe Franklin Show.

Excellent interviewer. Most the time it was hard to tell what "side of an issue he was on". Actually believed the person being interviewed should have the spotlight. Always thought he was much better than Larry King who seemed to get more pub. I remember listening to Franklin (yes, in New York) back when all we had was a radio.
