Using this one example of a teacher going off the rail to make the case against arming teachers is like saying since we have a few bad cops they should not be armed. This guy was obviously unstable and never would have been included in the program.

I'm for saying we'll arm teachers but against actually widespreadly doing it. We've had this discussion before Lex, the deterrence factor is in the possibility your teacher may be armed.

The reality is many of these teachers aren't even fit to teach and have several students they outright despise. Some rightfully so. We've all seen the videos of students attacking teachers and law enforcement officials brazenly on school grounds.

In general, a better idea is letting the school be a non"gun free zone" for certain school personnel that the school principal and administration controls.

I don't know of anyone that has said or believes that all illegal aliens steal but they have broken our immigration laws and therefore all are criminals in that sense.

If the school does request Mr. Math Teacher, he must still submit to a psychological examination. If he doesn't pass, no gun for him in school.

With all due respect: You got it backwards.

Do you honestly believe the President dictates to the Service?

Not directed at you, but I suspect that the "push back" on the suggestion that arming teachers is a mistake is because the "gunslingers" who struggled pass the 10 hours of CHL training are offended by the suggestion they are not qualified to join the "Gunfight at the OK Corral" in the 11th hour!

The other half have never been a teacher or administrator in a public school, and don't have a clue as to the average "mentality" (using that term loosely) of the hired personnel manning the classrooms and the "front office"! They can't teach shit but you want to strap a .45 on their hip?

Trump is wrong to toss out that carrot.

Process to appoint a school marshal:

1. Appointing Entity must submit the completed Appointing Entity Number Application to TCOLE. This form designates all authorized signatures on forms and paperwork to follow. (Provided upon request).

2. Appointing Entity selects candidate(s) for School Marshal.

- Candidate(s) must be an employee(s) of the school or college.

- Candidate(s) must hold a valid License to Carry, issued through the Texas Department of Public Safety. (Copy submitted to TCOLE).

- Candidate(s) must pass a psychological exam (TCOLE will provide this form).

- Candidate(s) attends/completes TCOLE approved 80 hour School Marshal course.

3. Appointing Entity submits School Marshal Appointment Form and Fee. Once approved, a School Marshal license will issue to the candidate(s). He or she will be authorized to act as a School Marshal, per the written regulations adopted by the School Board/Governing Body.
I recommend that you insist the school district BUY you on their dime a liability insurance policy that covers gross negligence if you can cant get one (probably won't get one for "intentional" acts) and I would suggest a minimum of $5 million per incident with provisions in there for hiring an attorney to defend (separate from the school district's attorney or regular lawyers for the school district). BTW: You don't want a "rider" on the district's general liability policy, you want a separate policy even with a separate insurer ... so they don't throw you under the buss for the district. See Florida's Sheriff!

Another recommendation is to have ALL COMMUNICATIONS with you in some recorded/written format that can be archived for at least four years and you have access to retain a copy for your records. Also make sure the district has a clear and unequivocal policies and procedures for your duties and jurisdiction (which will have to also meet the Texas Education Code policies with respect to "school police" and "campus cops"!

There's more ... but no charge for the above suggestions.

You do realize it was a gun-free zone. Right? Think they called it a 'school safety zone'. Same diff.

I noticed it took them 45 minutes to resolve the situation. Probably a bad idea for them to outsource to Broward County Sheriffs Dept. whose motto is: When seconds count, we gonna be getting us some coffee and doughnuts to discuss it first
