As usual, it depends on your perspective. If you asked people in the Middle East if Christianity was the religion of peace in the 13-1400s they would probably say no. Many religions have gone through good and bad phases.
I think that a religion of peace has to actively practice, promote, and attempt to facilitate peace. Some followers of Islam do that, some don't. Some Christians do, some don't.

The religion in power is peaceful, the religion out of power is not. Were they over here taking our oil, I would hope we would kick the ever loving shit out of them.

That is no defense, that is just the facts on human nature.

Christianity certainly has had some dark periods. The Spanish Inquisition, comes to mind. For the most part Christians have been pretty well behaved for the last couple of hundred years. The Muslims on the other hand, not so much; they've been pure evil for fourteen hundred years.

Come to think of it, all the world's major religions are basically positive, except for one.
