Barter

I've seen the topic discussed sparingly before, but I was wondering what are some general rules about bartering in lieu of greenbacks.

There was a pretty good discussion about this on the main board. The topic had to do with setting up a special forum for it. I'm sure if you search you will find it. My memory is that some girls really like to barter and some feel insulted.

Another thing I noticed is that some people seem to confuse barter with bargain. When you say barter they think you are going to try to talk them down in price rather than to trade with them for something they want or need.

Just so we are all on the same page here is the dictionary definition of barter from Merriam Webster: to trade by exchanging one commodity for another.

I can't speak for everybody (guy or girl) on this board, but I know that at my job if my boss asked me if I would skip getting my pay check for something else I wanted in exchange....I would politely decline. I work there because I want a check every 2 weeks that I can take to the bank & cash. Giving me my own money to do what ever the hell I want to do with it. But I am am some what of an independent person so having the ability to disperse my money how I see fit is the best decision for me.

Money is not wealth, and is actually quite worthless really. I'd like to see more bartering in our economy overall, and think it would be beneficial, especially with an inflated, elastic currency and discussions of a value added tax. If someone could say, build a fence that a provider wanted to erect, how would it really be different than giving the money to do so? Obviously, the provider decides what she will accept, but it shouldn't be considered an insult. Having said that, I've never tried to barter or bargain.

Actually you are quite right! Money is worthless. It is built on the "Faith System". We do not have enough gold to support the amount of paper money we have in circulation. Making matters worse, banks are only required to keep 10% reserves in their bank at any given time. The most intriguing part about the bartering topic to me is this...
The world could be in the worst shape and disarray, war/famine everywhere, food/water/supplies as sparse as the hair on a bald man's head, and yet there will still be plenty of men willing to give just about anything to get pussy LOL. Now that's tenacity.

I'd say that the worst part about monetizing debt and fractional reserve banking is that it causes inflation, which is a hidden "tax". Since 1913, $0.95 of every $1.00 has been essentially confiscated by the government and the banks.

In any case, too bad most women aren't willing to give just about anything to get dick. Women have always disagreed with me when I said that they have it easier when it comes to sex. The barter system can be a great tool to get what one wants, so long as both parties agree on the exchange. It is not for everyone, but it is for some. It can work out well, but I don't think it is a good idea to do with someone you do not know well and can trust. That usually doesn't work out well. You can always approach the subject, but do so carefully and if the other party chooses not to participate, that is their choice.

People, the topic is bartering in the hobby not national monetary policies. That could be a topic for another thread but do not hijack this one. Thanks.

Because I provide a service that providers sometimes need and isn't cheap, I've been asked to barter on several occasions by providers and it has usually gone very, very well for both parties.

In most of those instances, it was the provider who first broached the subject. Don't know if that makes much difference or not.

Bartering would be a great alternative for the local hobby scene. How about setting up a forum for providers to advertise what they need for us to know what would be acceptable.

Given this some thought, wouldn't this activity be even safer when you consider that someone goes over to help someone who needs it and as a thank you physical activities are given. No money is exchanged and everyone is happy...guess it would only be illegal depending on how the laws are worded.

in the auto repair buiness i get ask to trade services more than you think. mostly college girls who are broke and the divorced moms that have 3 kids and are broke too. these girls are just everyday girls next door type. i have never ask for trade but they bring it up. sometimes there is a trade for services.

Yeah, the extra credit requests come more often then I first joked about before becoming a professor.
