State Sen. Donne Trotter Arrested For Trying To Take Gun On Plane

CHICAGO (CBS) – An Illinois state senator running to replace Jesse Jackson Jr. in Congress was arrested Wednesday morning after he allegedly tried to bring a gun onto a plane at O’Hare International Airport.

Sen. Donne Trotter (Dim-Chicago) was charged with a felony count of attempting to board an aircraft with a weapon, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office. The charge carries a penalty of 1 to 3 years in jail....

Trotter, 62, has been a state senator since 1993. Before that, he was a state representative from 1988 to 1993. During his time in the legislature, he has regularly been an anti-gun vote, and has opposed legislation that would allow for concealed carry in Illinois.

Anti-Gun Zealot Hoisted on His Own Petard

More than a dozen cop cars, the SWAT team, K9 units and the Erie County Sheriff’s Air One helicopter swarmed Harvey Austin Elementary School in Buffalo on Thursday after reports of a man with a gun near the school or on the grounds. Dwayne Ferguson, head of the Buffalo chapter of MAD DADS, was taken into custody. He will be arraigned Friday.

Meanwhile, the SWAT team conducted a more thorough secondary search of the school. It was during the secondary search that police found Ferguson with a gun.

Police believe the 52-year-old may have been the person that prompted the 911 call. Police say they do not believe he had any ill intent and Ferguson has a valid permit for the weapon.

However, for having a loaded weapon on school grounds, Ferguson has been charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities say Ferguson was at the school because he teaches an after school program, though he is not a district employee.

Texas Lawmaker Arrested.

Sen. Juan Hinojosa, D-McAllen, TX was found with a 9 mm handgun in his briefcase Monday afternoon as he passed through security at Miller International Airport.



Airport security discovered the weapon and police arrested Hinojosa and took him to the police department to be arraigned.
