I Think the Raffle was a Great Idea, had it been handled by the Right Person(s)

IMHO, a really nice honest Raffle should ONLY be handled by a Well-Known, Well Respected Provider. And this Provider should NOT do it for free. Let’s say for example: she should get 10% of the take. 1500/150 … 2,000/200 I think that using the numbers in the Texas Lotto will keep the game honest. It was a great way for Hobbyists to get an overnighter or weekend getaway with 1 or 2 or even 3 providers. For married guys, they could split it up into several sessions within a certain time frame. Even though the Raffle ended poorly, that was because of trusting the wrong people, and hobbyists even went as far as not hobbling with all the winning funds. Let a Provider run this, and ya’ll will see how nice it can be. A Provider with a good Reputation, who has a lot to lose if it were not handled correctly. (Let’s take a vote on whom that person should be and ask her?)

Does Texas have anything like this?

If not, there should be enough funds to allow for airfare.
Or Maybe a Casino Weekend Getaway with gambling money

Come on Ladies, Speak up and tell us your thoughts.

HAHAHA Hey looiecypher lets get some popcorn and watch another train wreck!!!

First off let me said I totally agree the raffle was a great idea for a hobbyist to afford a overnighter. I know who the handlers were but I don't think they were the ones to ruin the game IMO it was the winners that ruined the spirit and the fun of the raffle. It looked like too many guys were playing the game just for the money and not the true purpose of the raffle. There is no way anyone can make sure a hobbyist is playing for the sole purpose of winning money for an overnighter, everyone will swear up and down thats what their playing for but in the end when they get all that cash they dash to pay over due bills. I'm sure most will flame me but it would be best if the provider got the money directly instead of the whiner I mean winner.

Please don't tell me that pre-paying the chosen provider would have worked out better!?!?!

Having someone hold the cash and pay after the session? Sure, that sounds good too. NOT.

The logistics of the money handling and transfer and having someone that both sides could trust to do that is something only a few very would be eligible to do and I'm not sure Chipper has the time!

I have no dog in this hunt, but how often does giving a provider money ahead of time work out?

There were revisions that I didn't keep up with...so, that's just me.

If I may offer a suggestion. Maybe a provider should put together her own raffle. Have a trusted member be the "escrow" for the funds and then turn it over to her when the session is to be had. That way we know Who, What...you decide the... When & Where...if you win. I think thats been done in the past.

Being fairly new to this site, I missed the first raffle and waffeled about the second one long enough not to lose any money on it. (I know about only two.) Having said that, I think the idea of a raffle is neat. As pointed out above, the issue is whom do we trust to handle the money and ensure the whole thing is carried out according to Hoyle. Is it a super moderator like Chipper, or is it a provider? The answer seems to be someone who doesn't have any interest in the outcome. I've noticed posts from a couple of female members who don't seem to be providers. Might one of them be appropriate, or might they be participating in the raffle along with the men members? Being relatively new, I don't know. Anyway, that is my suggestion--select someone who has no interest in the outcome who can be the "honest broker." Again, being relatively new, I don't know who that might be, but I suspect the long-time members would have a nominaiton.

That's why this raffle thingy won't work nobody can trust each other.

Since no one knew who the winner was or who he chose it would be impossible to pay in advance. However, If someone won the raffle and he said who he wanted to spend time with it is relatively certain that if she were given the money, he would have to spend some time with her.
We Already seen how Hobbyists Handled/Organized the Raffle & how that Turns out.

Hobbyists Handlers = Very Poor Job
(more info on this in LR)

Hobbyists Winners = Very Poor Job and can't be trusted to Hobby with all the funds. And do what this raffle was designed for.

Lets give the Ladies a chance to Handle/Organize this, They can't do any worse than the hobbyists already did. You just might be surprised & Impressed. If the hobbyists don't do an all-nighter with the Provider of his choice, his loss. Provider still gets paid for her time, and it don't go to pay HIS BILLS. Are Ya'll trying to tell me that with ALL the very smart Providers & Hobbyists that we have on this board, that we can't come together and figure out how to Organize a little RAFFLE?

If a MOD (Any MOD) was to jump in, set the rules and run this RAFFLE, I would be first in line to send my money in. Even an Ex-Mod like CPI3000 Or retired Provider but still active MOD like FAWN.

Yes it is about trust and I can understand why some would be hesitant with me because I have not been in this hobby much. Good point, CG, on who to put trust in for something like this.

I'm just offering up time and whatever is needed for this - assisting, etc.
Suggested rules:

1 - Instead of an overnighter for us married folk, let us pick 2-3 sessions instead.
2 - Have hobbyists pre-designate how, who they will spend their winnings on, should they be the winner (indicating an overnighter or 2-3 sessions at this time so there is no question at the end of the game)
3 - Have a mod as the handler...they're all pretty well trusted, I think, and have a good enough working relationship with us all to be fair in the turn out.
4 - Let's play!
