I read something interesting recently about spammers, and it may apply here.

One of the reasons the stories from the Nigerian scammers are so far-fetched is that they are purposefully trying to weed out those who are smart enough to see through the scam. They're true bottom feeders, and they don't want to waste time with anyone who's not among the most gullible.

I wonder if some of these providers are using the same approach? Write the ads so only the dumbest guys respond, so they're easier to bilk?
