Traveling To L.A. - Where To Stay?

This won't happen until August but I'm looking for a good place to stay while visiting L.A. Nothing too expensive, but nothing that I might get murdered in or catch the clap.

Any suggestions?

I stayed in Rancho Cucamonga once by Ontario Airport at the Aloft. It was very nice and trendy. It isn't right in L.A., but I wasn't sure of your exact preference on location. Its such a big area there. Maybe you wanna be closer to the beach
