That looks to not be true. But it used to be if you punched in your pin incorrectly a few times, it would take your card, and not give it back.

I have never ever used an ATM in my life.
I do not have a PIN number.
I do not have a debit card either.
As a result, I have never ever had any issues with an ATM or potentially being robbed at one.

I don't know if I would really mind someone coming up to me at an ATM

I would gently suggest that one should not "approach" someone transacting business at an ATM, but should remain a respectful distance away with your card handy and visible giving the customer using the ATM PRIVACY in the transaction of their business and plenty of room to evacuate the area before one approaches to transact their business ... with anticipation that others will do the same. A minimum of 10 feet is marginally appropriate, and I would suggest farther. Just pretend it's respecting their privacy.

Now if we could just get our government to do the same.
