So... what is YOUR number? :D

Hobbyist posed an interesting question to me and I thought I'd see what others answers might be. This gent always poses interesting questions like this one.. and I thought this one was particularly fun..

How much money would you have to receive to leave the hobby and never come back?

The parameters:

1. There are no strings attached. You would not be expected to work for the money, see the gent for the money, nothing. It would simply be a one time, lump gift.

2. If you accept it, you can NEVER return to the hobby.

3. You cannot answer "Oh I love the hobby and would never leave". That is a BS, cop-out answer. Everyone has a magic number to which they would never work again, regardless of industry. This isn't saying you can't go fuck for free.. but you can never P4P again.

So what would your number be? You can either simply post a number... or post a number and an explanation. I will post my number and explanation later in the day
250k. I could pay off my student loans and it would give me the 3 years I need to get my NP. Done.

I have actually given this some thought for when I finally decide to have a relationship again.

Great question.

LOL,
I wonder how many guys have thought, "How much would it take for me to bolt from my relationship and ONLY hobby?"

Yin and Yang.

Edit: I didn't give a number! Probably the years of pay with no expenditures ~300k

My number is 1M. If I had a million more, I could give her half, plus half of our current net worth, and get the fuck out of dodge.

Because I wouldn't have to work, and neither would the person with whom I'm in a relationship. All the time in the world to enjoy each other and our family. Which would, personally speaking of course, all but eliminate my reasons for hobbying.

Is that too romantic for here? Should I have made it more male chauvinistic? :lol

I agree with Fun, If I had $750k (and I have thought about this before this post like THN said) I could make it to retirement age without working and then be free of work. Being free of work and having time to spend with the SO and family would eliminate the need to hobby. Porbably elimenate the ability to hobby as well if I am with the wife all day, ...

Boy! I'm feeling rather cheap over here!

My number... is $75K. For me, that would be enough to cover all of my bills for the next 2 years, and cover my school. It would allow me to focus solely on school and not have to obsess over scheduling, trying to make sure all of my classes are condensed into 2 days so that I can still work, making sure I can cover my classes and books each semester, etc.

Don't feel cheap Grace..

If the cash was actually right in front of them instead of a hypothetical question on eccie most people would take 25k-50k easily.
But then they would probably come back pretty quickly.

I would prefer $750,000. Then, I could easily retire and be comfortable.

Go back to school ... volunteer. Live a frugal life of understated elegance.

Travel the world and live close to the ground while doing so.

(Gosh. Listen to me, will 'ya?)
