NBA full of hypocrites?

Some white guy exercised his first amendment right to free speech and people heard about it and went crazy.

wtf?
He can say whatever he wants, why can you ban him for his words, you must focus on his actions

Recall he was going to get his 2nd NAACP award soon, but that's been taken back, or whatever,(I'm sure his money won't be missed, why would the NAACP need more money?)

Donald Sterling donated money for years to the Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP, which honored the Clippers owner with a lifetime achievement award in 2009 and was planning to present him another in May until the controversy broke over his racially insensitive comments that went public over the weekend.

and the NBA also wants to do something because the mans weak words caused the common denominator to go nuts

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Calling the racist comments allegedly made by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, "reprehensible behavior,'' Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert called for swift action by the NBA in response to the matter.

Why are they doing this knowing that they'll likely get sued for infringing on the mans 1st amendment rights?

a hooker not seeing a black man is wore than this, He just said words, they do action.

I wonder if he'll sue the NBA or someone...
Yup. Im telling you. This is BS

Everyone, every human being on this earth is a hypocrite, including especially myself,
Have we not learned from the last 2 years starting with the Zimmerman case, Paula Dean admitting she said the N word in her lifetime, and not to mention the JCC shootings here in KC, that hate, discrimination, or prejudice of any kind or even remarks will not be tolerated in this political event ie our first black president.

If you are in a position of power such as David Sterling or Paula Dean, you are opened to scrutiny whether self imposed like Paula Dean or set up by his girlfriend like David Sterling

Although I may agree with your rudimentary point of free speech...these days if you are in power or even not in power and you share your opinion...you are open to scrutiny including the consequences that have befallen David Sterling

Finally David Sterling is an 81 year old billionaire...I hard think he cares what anyone thinks.
He has the right to say what he wants. There is no charges against him for speaking his mind - that is the first amendment right. However, the NBA is a private company that has the right to do what it pleases after hearing what he said.

You can only cry first amendment if they were trying to charge him with some type of crime and take him to court over the recording. But since they aren't, the first amendment argument does not apply.

I'm not a constitutional scholar, but I can't see what the first amendment has to do with him expressing his bigotry. He can say whatever he wants, but he needs to live with the consequences. The first amendment says no laws will be passed prohibiting free speech. I haven't heard of any laws being passed prohibiting his free speech. So anyone saying his first amendment rights are being violated doesn't know what they are talking about.
You have the right to say what you want. Your employer has the right to hold you accountable if you violate any rules with that right to free speech. That would include discrimination, harassment, etc. NBA is a private entity and can take appropriate action against their own. Not all may agree, but that's life.
Don't be surprised if this all ends up in civil court. Sterling is a litigious individual and I don't think he'll hesitate one minute if the other 29 owners vote to take over his franchise to go to court in order to keep the NBA from selling his team. If they want to ban him from attending games and participating in association activities, I have no problem with that. But I do have a problem with the association forcing someone to sell his team against his wishes. I think he'll sell the team on his own after season ticket sales plummet, sponsorships leave and free agents decline to sign with the team....or he'll die (he's 81 for God's sake - he doesn't have long before he's taking a dirt nap).

recall a hypocite is someone who practices hypocrisy
hypocrisy is the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; pretense.
With mostly all black players it is hard to have a racist owner. Was a funny area for him to own should have had a hockey team.

As is typical with the media these days, we're only hearing the part that makes it controversial.

Racism is wrong, and so is the media dissecting, twisting and turning stories around to benefit them.

The real question is who put her up to recording the conversation. I suspect it was magic Johnson who has tried numerous times to purchase an NBA franchise and has always wanted an LA team. I would not be surprised if he were to show up in any group attempting to purchase the team, because its a foregone conclusion that Sterling will be forced to sell.

I haven't heard everything he said, but what I heard sounded more like a jealous old man using hurtful (and racist) words to strike back out of anger.

I'm not saying he's not a racist (IDK), I'm just saying that it sounded to me like an old white guy who was insecure about his young, hot, mixed-race girlfriend showing a little attention to MJ, who could make just about any man feel insecure about his girlfriend.

So, what does he do when he becomes defensive? He uses MJ's race as a weapon of attack. I wonder if his motives were more anger and jealously than purely racist?

I'm not supporting what he said. But emotions were involved and that's when good judgment goes out the window.
