3rd party software like Panda Security, if you lose you phone or it’s stolen, you can login from another device or PC and delete everything from the missing phone back to factory. It deletes all contacts, photos, messages, etc for things like this. iCloud also has this feature but the most troubleshooting thing for most, is remembering your account password.
