How seriously should threats of outing be taken?

How seriously should the membership and staff at large take a threat like this? This quote was taken from a political thread of all things. There was some heated discussion but nothing that would seem to warrant this kind of response.

Outing or threats of outing are taken seriously. Membership here is anonymous and for the privacy of our members it will remain that way. That means any effort or attempt to connect a person's real world information to their username on this board will be dealt with swiftly and harshly. This includes real names, employment, medical info, addresses past or present, images, criminal or driving record, etc. We expect everyone who participates here to respect and go to great lengths to protect the anonymity and privacy of one another. Reckless disregard or accidental outing will also be taken very seriously.

We do not comment on specific action taken, but enforce these rules closely - especially ones dealing with the safety and security of our members, and violations of this are absolutely not tolerated.

A while before this incident I experienced a member threatening me in a similar fashion....

Someone that was very unhappy with the direction of some threads as well as the way he was seriously tripping over himself and being put in his place with quite a bit of regularity went off a number of times over a few days....

He lost it really bad one night and I was the recipient of numerous threats from him as to being outed.

At first I was amused, and later felt pity for this member so desperately seeking attention....

As I proceeded to call him on the threats and show little concern he escalated and his threats then took on outing the entire community.... he rambled about all his friends and contacts in DPS, judges, APD and the media...

These threats were forwarded to staff....

but of course... staff does not provide feedback on what actions they take against members....

My OPINION on this matter is that when a member crosses those type of lines and makes threats that could impact the entire community that they should be outed to the community so that all know what they are dealing with. Then they should experience a permanent ban.....There should be a ZERO Tolerance Policy for dealing with members that threaten the community.

It's kind of ludicrous the time that is spent to repetitively ban someone like Humpty for wanting to be in everyone's face about unprotected sex but someone can repeatedly threaten not just individual members but the community at large and be tolerated.... maybe even placated.....

Funny. It wasn't long ago that this poster was screaming that some members here were potential security risks. Yet when he can't find a way to communicate the way he wants, he resorts to threats of outing other members.

Everyday, his hypocrisy shows us that he is an unstable character who can't be trusted. Anything he types on here can be and probably will be contradicted by himself.

Such threats should be taken very seriously.
