Went on a 2 day fishing trip this month and caught 1 Ling Cobia, 4 King's, 2 Amber Jack's, 12 Vermilion Snappers, 8 Black Tuna and 3 Yellow Tail Tuna.

The first time for me to catch a 100 pound Yellow Tail on a spinning reel!

It was a private charter out of Freeport.
Captain Elliott only runs crew boats now.
Back when they were fishing they had the best party boats!
I heard the Big E has been in Venice, LA.
But it has been in dry dock this year.
We left at noon... did some trolling and stopped at 2 places. We were out 100 miles
About 7pm and fished around some rigs for tuna until 6 am. Stopped at 1 place on the way back in
and got back to the dock at 1pm.
That's awesome. So its not a full 48 hours? Just spans midnight to get two days limit?

How many hours total?

Dock to dock was 26 hours but they have 30 hours scheduled. We left at 12:00 pm and got back at 1pm the next day. They cleaned the fish and put on ice. We were on the road by 2pm. Out of the 26 hours we had about 12 hours of fishing.

I went on several 48 hr fishing safaris with Captain Elliott back in the day. I actually went on my first 12 hour Red Snapper trip with Captain Elliott in 1976.

I have fished in the Gulf of Mexico in Texas and Louisiana and Florida. The Florida Keys, the Atlantic in Florida, The Pacific in San Diego, San Pedro and Cabo San Lucas.
That's awesome info and history.

I vowed i would go this year but didn't. It's not too later either. Should be great at least until the first front.

I really need to take my son.
Me go next week.... Sunburn and beer are in order! First stop Hackaberry LA.... Then I will see what else I can get into

I have been on 4 -12 hour trips and this trip makes 5 so far. I will have to get a new spinning reel because the last Yellowtail tore up my old Peen 9500 SS. I am looking at a Shimano Saragossa 20000 or Accurate SR-50.

Take Snapper Slapers lures, mullets, and some steel leaders.
Your son will enjoy that.
So many of those fish have unique meat qualities.

But I'd love to have a BIG ling with brisket sized filets.

That meat is so versatile.

They're all good ..... kinda like women; but different types for different occasions.

Yea Ling Cobia and Wahoo!
I had a Ling on this trip but it was hooked with the stinger hook on the side of the face and got off right at the boat before it was gaffed.

O well half the fun is the battle.
Ling are peculiar fish.

They kinda remind me of wakeup:

Little body ..... big head ....mostly mouth.

Hangs out at the surface....quietly watching.

Interested but doesn't say much.

Then can't resist and takes the bait.

Puts up a hell of a fight ....

..... but always loses.
