I wonder what the long layoffs do to all of the teams. I can take some comfort in knowing Alabama has been off a week longer than LSU.

Which is why we need a gotdamn College playoff!! Then like the Steelers a few years back in the NFL a team that peaks at season's end doesn't lose that edge after waiting up to 5-6 weeks for the next game.
The 2 week gap for the Super Bowl is needed in the NFL. Even in the 12 and 14 game eras the idea was to give the League champions a week to rest up, it was supposed to help the teams be fresher given the roster limits in the NFL and the grind of an NFL season. The lamest Super Bowl loser's excuse is they were "stale" after the 2 week break. The NFL to avoid blow-outs tried eliminating the week off and it didn't help, they quickly dropped the idea.
in the case of the BCS title game the extra week won't really help Bama, both teams will be well rested if nothing else. Now how sharp they play could be a different story but still no excuse, the Bowls have had a break before the games since the Bowl era began, in part for the rest but also to align with the year end Holidays. And in the really good old days it also was supposed to allow the
student-athlete to finish fall classes. Imagine that.
