Clothes made out of "patent" material?

There is a skirt that I'm thinking of buying and although I know what patent leather is, when I see the term "made of patent material" for whatever reason, I'm thinking plastic.

Could someone clarify this for me?

I'm on this quest to get a few pieces of fetish wear and well ... I'm shopping. I hate to shop! But I would hate it worse if I ordered something and it turned out to be a flimsy piece of plastic.

Would appreciate the thoughts of those that have some experience with this!

Thanks,
Elisabeth
It's plastic, but plastic can be fun too. I really only look at leather as high quality/long lasting. That being said, plastic is easier to clean, a lot less expensive and can be decent quality.

You have heard of patent leather shoes (the shiny ones). They have been around for years. It is a material that is man-made; plastic or sometimes called synthetics.

Based on how your outfit is cut and how you wear it, expect squeaking, that's simply what patent leather does.
I do not know of any company that advertises "patent material". Usually it is referred to as PVC. It is technically plastic but not the cheap stuff it is more like what you would get with a nice raincoat. I would suggest looking at http://www.LipService.com They have been a definitive source of alternative clothing for 25 years. They have some nice high quality pvc. If you have a local alternative clothing store in your town you may be able to see and try on the piece. I find that your run of the mill sex stores do not sell high quality pieces unless they are fetish store. I would not suggest latex if this your first venture with this type of clothing. Quality pieces are super expensive and can tear easily. Stretch Pvc gives you the same look as latex but does not tear as easily and is cheaper and thicker. You want something with a little stretch to it for the best fit.
