I found the link below interesting. The relevant statistic is the following:
“The authors concluded that the average male to female risk of HIV transmission is .07 - .08% per vaginal sex act (which, in a large study, would mean approximately 7-8 cases of transmission for every 10,000 acts of unprotected vaginal sex) if there was no receptive anal intercourse”
So on average, you would have to have unprotected vaginal sex over a 1000 times with someone who had HIV to contract HIV. If you had unprotected sex with an HIV positive person once a week, that would take 20 years. Given that less than 0.5% of the people in Austin are HIV positive, and given that I am 60 and once a week is very optimistic, I don’t think I have much to worry about at this point.
