Apparently they're not adding a new law, sodomy is already against the law in Michigan, but changing the langauge of an existing law. Now the sodomy statutes were struck down a decade ago across the country by the Supreme Court but that does not require the states to take any action repealing the law. This provision is part of animal protection bill.
Senator Jones has said that if he starts going into details then everyone will shut him down so he included a langauge change only

So...there is NO new law to make sodomy illegal in Michigan. It already is subsequent to another court challenge. In other words, this is a law that no one is going to enforce probably and definitely not against married or heterosexual partnters.
