Interesting.

And some additional food for thought

The Biden administration has added new options to allow migrants to request asylum without going to the southern border, including a government cellphone app known as CBP One. Migrants also have the option of applying for asylum at new processing centers in Guatemala or Colombia, which will give successful applicants the option to legally enter Canada, Spain or the U.S.

Starting Friday, immigration agents will seek to deport migrants who attempt to enter the country without first having set up an appointment using one of those options.

The administration also has imposed stricter penalties on asylum-seekers who try to cross the border illegally: They could be charged with a misdemeanor of illegal entry, or a felony if they’ve tried to enter the U.S. multiple times. They could also be barred from the country for five years.

A rule that went into effect Thursday will deny asylum to migrants who passed through a third country where they could have sought asylum instead

Let's also remember that seeking asylum is a legal means of seeking entry into and obtaining legal status in be in the U.S. before broadly labeling folks traveling to the border to apply as "scumbag illegals" without any knowledge of their individual situations, stories or claims.

Some more folks who point out all the chicken Littles on the right
How about that? We weren't invaded by brown people from south of the border after Title 42 expired!

Crickets from the conservatives on this issue, I see. When they're proven wrong, they just ignore it and act like it was never a big deal to them anyway. Lol.

But some folks say we were. And we need to shoot the invaders. Wall full of machine guns. Sniping folks as they approach the border. Artillery fire into Mexico. Landmines. Moats full of freshly-squeezed Florida gators.

Why do we need those things?

"Fair and Balanced" look by Fox at the legal challenges to the policy changes that have massively reduced the volume

Fresh news from a local Fox affiliate. Makes some "invasion" folks looks downright silly.

It's been three weeks since Title 42 was lifted on May 11.

The expected influx of migrants post-Title 42 did not materialize

And the administration knows they haven't won. This is a process. And as the cartels and coyotes adjust, as there are legal challenges to some policies... we'll see ebb and flow. Now is not the time to toss up some banners on a navy ship for a photo op and proclaim mission complete.

Since Title 42 was lifted last month, the number of migrant encounters on the Southwest border is down by more than 70 percent and nearly 40,000 asylum-seekers who were deemed ineligible have been removed from the country, the Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday.

From May 12 to June 2, over 38,400 migrants from more than 80 countries wererepatriated under Title 8, including 1,400 asylum-seekers from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela who were sent to Mexico, the agency said.

This is the first time Mexico has allowed the U.S. to return migrants from other countries to its country, U.S. officials said.
Once again.... crickets from the GOP on this issue. It's almost as if their bogus scare tactics aren't working anymore. Oops.

No need to poke folks for not responding. It's not a tit for tat.

If they're silent, they're silent and that is what it is.

South America must’ve ran out of poor people. I do like the moat idea, although it’s a metric shit ton of digging. Maybe use unauthorized border crossers to do it, á la old fashioned prison chain gangs.
Sounds like reasonable immigration policy. No fear mongering, not machine gunning, no land mines, no false claims about "open borders." Just fair, compassionate, yet firm enough, border policy.

Does the app have an option to get them mail in ballots ASAP?

Dude, a zillion people have waltzed across the border unimpeded in the last couple years. It’s not reasonable immigration policy because it wasn’t 2 zillion.
How did "a zillion" people "waltz across" with Trump's monument to irrational fear and hate (wall) successfully built? Is it not as effective as he claimed it would be? I know Los Chapitos have tunnels, but you can't get too many people through those without giving away the location. It's probably more profitable to send other stuff through.

It's reasonable immigration policy because it offers a reasonable path while still maintaining controls, and doesn't seek to "otherize" immigrants like the MAGA folk do.
