BEST TEXAS HONKY TONKS ???

Small, out of the way, great music, great boot scootin, fun......

Have any recommendations......

I keep a list for places to visit while riding Lone Star backroads on the Harley.

Back 20 years ago when I used to love to go out and slum it, I would drive around Jacksboro Hwy in Fort Worth. There is quite a history concerning that stretch of highway.

Perhaps things have changed.

But during that short time of going to dives and honky tonks, I met some of the greatest philosophers and brainiacs. Under the fog of Budweiser and song, but always interesting.

When fighting started in the background, that was always my signal to scoot.

I'd also like to know about present day places as well, although I'm not sure if I'll make it back.

The 2-3 places on Jacksboro Hwy I found by driving around and walking in. I don't remember any names.

back in the 1950's, Willie Nelson played Jacksboro Highway dives.. the kind that had chicken-wire around the stage, to protect the performers from flying glass bottles

For something in Dallas, The Goat on Gaston. If you feel like getting out early in the day, there is always something going on at The Goat.

Good blues. Not honky tonk but has the same vibe and probably, similar client base.

Always been a lot of fun. Heck, I've even been to a fund raiser there for shelter dogs.

Interesting place.
Guitars and Cadillacs, Abilene, TX
More of a "dive" bar IMO; but a great UTR bar......have had a few fun karaoke nights at The Goat !

Gruene Hall. Gruene, Tx. I hear Pearls in the Stockyards has the old Honky Tonk music if that's what you like. L
Loose Wheels in Sherman
Love and War in Texas in Plano, Grapevine
Adair's Saloon in Dallas
Honkytonk Texas in Silisbee
The Boxcar in Ovilla. It's off Bear Creek Rd and Cockrell Hill Rd. Bikers welcome. Live bands, decent food, pool tables. Haven't been in a couple years but its a lively place on the weekends.

Depends on when you go there, I'm sure.

I used to adore going bar diving, years ago. Guess with the popularity of some of the places listed, I must not be alone.

Not sure if its still the case but Adair's used to be a popular LE off duty hangout
